About FireMonkey Glass
FireMonkey Glass is the creative glass outpouring
of Marshall Hyde (that's me!). I am a mixed-media artist
working primarily in glass since 1990, exploring a variety
of techniques and processes including: glass blowing, flame
working, engraving, cold working, casting & pate de verre,
kiln forming and vitreography (printing from glass plates).
I have been invited to teach workshops at conferences in the
US and UK, at The Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass,
and to be a teaching assistant (TA) at the Pilchuck Glass
School. I have had the great honor to meet and work with
some of the finest glass artists in the world as a student,
TA and co-instructor, and to call them my friends.
My work ranges in scale from small beads, to sculpture, to
large scale public art projects in the UK, made in collaboration
with British artist Jaqueline Cooley. In 2009, I was a co-
presenters at the Bullseye Conference in Portland, Oregon,
and I was a co-chair of the 39th Annual Glass Arts Society
Conference in Corning, New York, my adopted hometown.
I was married for many years to the wonderful artist, glass maker and educator Caitlin Hyde. Her generosity and creative influence on my work is immeasurable, and I am forever grateful to her. We remain dear friends.
For the last few years I was the executive director of an orchestra in the Corning area, with little time for making my own art in glass or any other medium. As much as I loved the orchestra, I am now re-establishing my studio and plan to make art & glass full time.
I hope you will join me as I embark on my "second act" in a lifetime of art.
